Flats Industrial Railroad Bridge, 2012
digital inkjet print
The Flats Industrial Railroad Bridge has been open to trains since the 1950s. The bridge is currently owned and operated by the Flats Industrial Railroad Company, a Class III Short Line railroad that acquired approximately 4 miles of rail line from Conrail (Consolidated Rail Corporation) in 1996. FIR provides terminal switching services, delivering railcars between Conrail and other shippers. While the Flats Industrial Railroad Bridge has a lesser historical footprint than other Cuyahoga River bridges, it plays a vital role in our global economy, connecting freight carriers from the Eastern and Western halves of the United States.
