West Third Street Bridge, 2012
digital inkjet print
West Third Street Bridge has a long history in Cleveland. The original wooden drawbridge structure was the principal bridge for traffic to the first iron refineries in the 1870s. The present vertical lift bridge was completed in 1940, as part of the Cuyahoga Streamlining Project, which widened the dangerous curves of the Cuyahoga navigation channel. Even after a costly update in 2007, the West Third Street Bridge continues to have serious engineering problems. The bridge is currently closed to traffic.
