In his Room series, Belgian artist Op de Beeck uses photography as one of several visual languages,
including video, sculpture, and installation, in an artistic practice that mines philosophical questions of art and life; how an individual defines himself against any cultural background. The eerie stillness in his anonymous public spaces results from creating completely fictional environments in the computer. Constructed sets carry equal weight to any found landscape in the work. Characters dropped into pristine postmodern environments exude reflective ennui, posed in questioning thought.
